Internal Pelvic release
What is Internal Pelvic Release work
The pelvic floor is a combination of multidimensional and directional layers of muscle, fascia and ligaments that come together in a complex way to enable holding of the body, maintaining intra-abdominal pressure and housing of the urinary, gastro-intestinal and reproductive organs.
These soft tissues are given support and anchoring by the bony structures of the pelvis and enable flexion of the sacrum and coccyx. As in any other area of the body, these soft tissues can hold tension and can be released with touch, pressure, breath and intension. As woman, we are gifted easier access to these arrangements to enable this release and work to establish tone, flexibility and tissues that 'sigh' to let babies through.
Based on the work, teachings and wisdoms of Fiona Hallinan, Jenny Blyth and Andrea Lopez, and coupled with my midwifery, doula and bodywork knowledge, I am available to work with you to connect you to your body and together explorer the possibilities of potential space for a better birth.

The purpose of this work is:
- to prepare for conception
- to prepare for birth by reducing tension & congestion and increasing flow & elasticity
- to explore and understand the anatomy to help make sense of some of the 'whys'
- to heal pelvic trauma
'The internal pelvis is a weave of spaces, muscles, tendons and emotions that all hold, support and respond to each other. This includes pleasure, injury, trauma and compensation.' ~ Fiona Hallinan
Jo is a registered midwife, experienced doula, childbirth educator, and bodyworker with over 20 years of supporting women with continuity through pregnancy & birth. Her passion lies in working intentionally with women’s bodies to invite more ease, connection, and trust—particularly in the pelvis, where so much wisdom and tension can reside. This calling grew out of her own preparation for birth, where she experienced firsthand the emotional and physical release that comes from deep internal work. Since then, she has witnessed its powerful impact in others, and now brings this embodied understanding into every aspect of her care.
Jo’s approach is rooted in the biopsychosocial model of care, shaped through mentorship with renowned birthworkers Fiona Hallinan and Rhea Dempsey. She weaves together birth advocacy, education, and believes in honouring the body’s wisdom by supporting each woman to ‘hear into speech’ what she—and her tissues—may need to express. When she’s not holding space for others, Jo recharges in nature—often camping, being with her children and dogs, or spending time by the beach.
