About Me

Picture
I have been guided to independent midwifery through decades of being a doula and supporting families on their pregnancy and birth journey. I have had three babies of my own whose arrivals took me on a journey through a hospital birth and the process of two planned home births. After experiencing my own and witnessing too many managed pregnancies and births, I knew there must be some other way to better the 'production-line' birth experience and I discovered there was.
My passion now lies in supporting optimal birth experiences and outcomes outside of acquiescent care. Women striving for a normal physiological birth are in a better position to achieve this if they trust in their body's natural ability to give birth and have the right supports around them. Being well informed and feeling physically, emotionally, and spiritually supported in the pregnancy and during the birth process leads to greater birth fulfilment no matter the outcome.
As a doula since 2002 and a midwife since 2024, I have gained much experience in all settings and with many situations. I feel confident to assist birthing families find their power to have the best birth possible. I know this outcome is achieved by working closely with individual situations, personal connections, and intuition.

I also moonlight in the day as an administrative consultant, and organise a broad range of birth events, workshops, and support circles.

About Private Midwifery

Choosing a private midwife offers many advantages that can make your pregnancy, labour, and postnatal experience more personal, supportive, and maintain and build your power and autonomy.
Here are some considerations:
  • Personalised, Continuous Care ~ with a private midwife, you’ll have one dedicated professional who cares for you throughout your entire journey—from pregnancy to birth and beyond. This means you’ll have a consistent point of contact and someone who understands your unique needs, preferences, and any concerns you may have. You'll also receive continuous care, including antenatal, birth, and postnatal visits, with no shift changes or unfamiliar faces.
  • One-On-One Support During Labour ~ Private midwives stay with you throughout your labour, ensuring you have a familiar, supportive presence by your side at all times. They’ll advocate for your wishes, offer guidance, and help you navigate your options, whether you're at home, a hospital, or a birth centre. This support can significantly reduce stress and increase your sense of control during a vulnerable time.
  • Lower Intervention Rates ~ Private midwives are trained in supporting natural births and respect that every woman’s labour is different. They’re skilled in managing normal, uncomplicated births and aim to minimize interventions unless absolutely necessary. If complications do arise, they will help guide you through your options and decisions, helping to avoid a "cascade of interventions" that can sometimes occur in more hospital-centric births.
  • Respect for Your Preferences ~ Midwives understand that no two births are the same and are committed to respecting your personal preferences and choices. They’ll work with you to create a birth plan that aligns with your values, and if things change during labour, they’ll adjust to support your evolving needs. Whether it’s comfort measure techniques, mobility during labour, or your approach to medical procedures, a private midwife will help ensure your wishes are respected as much as possible.
  • Independent, Unbiased Advice ~ Having a private midwife means receiving independent, expert advice throughout your pregnancy and birth. They’ll explain the pros and cons of any tests, medications, or procedures, empowering you to make informed decisions. If something unexpected happens, your midwife will be there to help you navigate your options, ensuring you have the information you need to make the best choice for you and your baby.
  • Consistent Monitoring and Holistic Care ~ Midwifes monitor both your and your baby’s health throughout the pregnancy, labour, and postpartum period. Because they’re familiar with your individual situation, they can catch potential concerns early and make recommendations for any necessary tests or referrals. They also offer holistic support, addressing your physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, and are skilled in natural remedies to manage pregnancy discomforts and labour pains.
  • Emotional Support and Empowerment ~ Pregnancy and childbirth are deeply emotional experiences, and having a private midwife by your side can make you feel more secure, confident, and empowered. Knowing you have a skilled professional who understands your needs and supports your birth choices can significantly reduce anxiety and help you feel more in control of the entire process.
Ultimately, choosing a private midwife is about having a trusted professional who is there for you every step of the way, offering personalised care and advocating for your wishes. If you value a more intimate, consistent, and holistic approach to pregnancy and birth, private midwifery care is a great option for you.
